The newest true boutique hotel in Edinburgh opened July’ 08. Bang in the city centre, much £ and imagination was spent on transforming the rounded corner block. It’s modern, hip and yet not cold; well-thought-through, highly individual. Cleverly soundproofed bedrooms are sexy, bold yet practical… thus popular even with business guests with some élan. Restaurant at The Rutland is a glitzy, comfy place;  flavoursome modern cuisine led by Médaille d’Or 2010-winning head chef David Haetzman. Superb wine list. The street-level lounge bar has good coffees, quality and value informal dining, cocktails. The One Below is a truly NYC-style affair with dynamic i-bar and arched, private booths for intimate or group nights out. Owned and directed by our Entrepreneur of the Year 2010, Nic Wood.

Need to know

> The 12 individually-designed bedrooms (in all shapes) each have glamour galore
> The soundproofing is especially impressive and a true city centre bonus
> All have wifi, nicely stocked mini-bar, safe, big TV, iPod dock, muffins, newspapers
> Most have a striking tall white padded headboard surrounded by subtle lighting
> Two ‘modern-baroque’ castle view rooms: one mainly black, the other white and gold
> Service is friendly, in all departments; we commend management for this
> Restaurant and bar lounge link by oval cut-out floor / ceiling with long chandelier; book live
> Lunch and dinner offer quality Scottish cuisine in relaxed atmos; Sunday roasts, too
> The One Below nightclub is a safe, sassy, intriguing place to enjoy a city evening
> Breakfast served laid-back style in bar lounge; trad or modern options

We love…

… The way the bedrooms are both very glam yet practical too
… Those delicious big fresh-baked muffins awaiting in room on arrival
… Location right at the west end of Princes Street so totally central
… Unpretentious, creative good food using many local and top-end ingredients
… Spending an evening in the club with its groovy i-bar and fun booths
