"We feel that our food is consistent. It's our main focus now. The fish comes from the port and we use local and craft suppliers wherever we can. This season we'll enhance the wine list. We love doing what we do and look forward with excitement to developing new dishes! The recently-opened Byre Suite has had a huge amount of positive feedback from guests who love the privacy and space - plus the outdoor hot tub, of course! The Loft Suite is the newest room. All have been continually enhanced over the years and are fresh each season. Winning the Michelin star this year was a special moment for us. See you soon!"

Superb cuisine, outstanding rooms, wild setting

The Albannach is a ravishingly romantic Scottish house with designer rooms and suites – each individual and unique in facilities, overlooking Lochinver Bay. There’s a relaxing, panelled conservatory lounge fronted by a terrace with seating outside, overlooking the garden with its hardy apple trees. Books, flowers and interesting objets galore. There's also a snug sitting room with open fireplace where we’ve enjoyed oysters and wine before dinner. Décor is always tasteful. The mood? One of modern Highland sophistication. Fine dining is absolutely at the core of things and the Michelin star-winning dining room serves superb, beautifully wise dinners in a handsome candlelit space with a hint of rustic romance to its elegant, sometimes formal-ish atmosphere. Stone floors, rich tones, carved seating, arched windows. The handwritten, richly-framed menu is available all day. Breakfast is top-notch and served on locally-made Highland Stoneware. Overlooking it all, the iconic mountains of Assynt including Canisp and Suilven. Wow.

> Ring to discuss the accommodation options before booking as each room / suite is very different
> The Byre Suite is the largest, most private, with a small conservatory, terrace and outdoor hot tub
> The Penthouse Suite is a beautiful space at the top of the house, though up a steep staircase
Here’s the accommodation information page on the hotel’s own website
Dinner is from a set menu so discuss in advance; they’re happy to make changes

> And here's a link to a typical (and typically exciting) dinner menu
> Don’t miss: the superb fish and seafood freshly sourced from this wild coastline
> Wi-fi is free to guests – it’s not available in all rooms but easily in conservatory
> Parking is easy, simply unload at the door and later park by the garden gate

Overlooking Lochinver Bay, about 10 minutes’ walk from the centre of the village. Approximately 30 minutes’ drive north of Ullapool, in the North West Highlands. Inverness is about 90 minutes by car. It's a winding road from the bridge in the village to Baddidarroch, keep an eye out for a turning on the left; the hotel is just a bit further, signed on the right. Go right up to the door to unload, then park down by the gateposts. Simples.

Keep an eye out for special reductions in the off-peak months, now that The Albannach is open for a much longer season. Their own website is often a bit out of date (tut, tut) but hey their energies go into the rooms and outstanding food. So if there's nothing online, give them a ring. And say we sent you.
