Close to Pitlochry this hotel's a prime choice run with enthusiasm by the highly engaging McGown family. Prime? Well, start in the quaint fishing-themed bar where brilliant light meals are served with style and a log fire burns; or dine beautifully in the contemporary-classy Two Sisters restaurant. Bedooms in main old house, a handsome turreted lodge, all have a good taste country feel – witty fabrics, posh wallpaper abound. “Slightly indulgent”, the owners call it, rightly. Rooms from modest to posh four-poster ones with spa baths. Also deluxe Gate Lodge. Enjoy treatments. A desirable, exclusive beat on the river Tay is on offer, also a terrific fishing ‘hut’ to which the hotel delivers food and drink. The McGowns know country sports inside-out and dispense charming hospitality with all.

> Fresh, delicious country food is served 7 days in the bar in season; in winter, book lunch
> The Two Sisters restaurant is a modern Scottish dining experience of high quality
> Chef / patron Neil McGown recently represented Scotland in NYC; holds Médaille d’Or 2009
