In the US Garden Inn is Hilton’s biggest brand with 500+ hotels, its motto: ‘focused service’... aim is to excel in key specifics guests rate most highly. This is the first in Scotland. Site genuinely city centre; parking is difficult, pricey in Aberdeen* but hotel has 21 spaces available on a first-come, first-served basis (fee). Décor at reception both glitzy (big round chandelier) and homey (free shortbread) / loungey with hints of the '60s, yet contemporary, as you move through to the bar area. Granite City Grill is split-level, attractive, has good food. Rooms are quite plush, very cleverly thought-through: superb chair at desk, adjustable-for-softness bed, bath plus separate rain shower. Free wi-fi everywhere; gym compact but well-equipped; laundry room a hit; 24hr tuck shop / pantry a brand core feature. Need to know > All 100 bedrooms are approximately the same size, except for two suites with separate lounges > As with all city hotels we recommend that you ask for a higher level room, so ask for level 5 or 6 > Some rooms, such as 410, have floor to ceiling windows for more light – worth getting > Rooms facing inwards to the courtyard get more sunlight and upper level ones have wider windows > Décor is plush, not budget; the desk / chair set up is flawless; lighting excellent; air-con good; 32" LCD TV > Every room bar 2 has both a bath and a separate rain shower (one with a wide head); Neutrogena toiletries > Granite City Grill has a well-planned menu offering grilled fish, chicken, steaks, meat; plus burgers, salads > The open-plan bar area has style and comfort; prices competitive – house wine just £12.95 a pop > There is a nicely-equipped, air-conditioned gym; not big but with Precor machines, free weights, water, etc. > The hotel isn’t terribly easy to find; in fact it is very central but a bit hidden away: plan ahead! We love… ... Free wi-fi (plus free dataport) in all rooms and the free business centre – no usage charges … Décor that manages to be cool and almost boutique hotel-like but is laid-back … Those designer / ergonomic Mirra® chairs at desks in all bedrooms: ideal working conditions … That 14-hour Pavillion Pantry™ mini-mart for essentials plus microwaves and ready meals … Nice room features like good air-con, comfy big armchair / sofa, quality bed and linens * There is a Hilton Garden Inn Aberdeen... in Maryland, USA... don't get them confused!
