Stunning setting for a house of friendliness, beauty and fine food
Kilcamb Lodge is on the wild Ardnamurchan peninsula, an area including the most westerly point of Great Britain. Our team has loved this hotel from the very first time we came down the short wooded drive to arrive at the historic old manor nestled by the very waters’ edge, grand old tree and grassy meadow to the front. It’s a truly romantic spot. The area is home to a plethora of wildlife. The house is full of lovable charm and homely sophistication; a pretty porch hints at what's within. Staff and management are notably kind and hospitable, making a real effort for guests’ happiness. Log fires burn in the two lounges, one of which is rather grand with fine furnishing, a touch of boho, big windows and comfy big seats and sofas from which to gaze out to the loch. There's a bar area and plenty corners in which to relax with a book. Bedrooms come in a variety of sizes so best to discuss when booking. Eating in the contented dining room is a joy; chef Tammo Siemers is a singularly dedicated man whose cooking is high class, exciting. David & Sally Ruthven-Fox are the friendly owners.

> Ring to discuss the accommodation options before booking as each room is very different
> The Monarch Suite is the best, perhaps, with views on two sides and a separate seating area
> The Sunart Suite is a very private hideaway on the upper floor, with a Scottish tartan theme
> Room 6 is a lovely room too with a great view, like Monarch, and a bright bathroom
> Room 1 has a private balcony which can be a boon in nice weather, or for smokers
> Normally Saturday and Wednesday are ‘gourmet nights’ and a tasting menu is offered
> The dining room is elegant, comfortable and romantic with loch views; it’s not too formal
> Kilcamb ‘doesn’t cater for children under 10 years of age’ so the tranquility remains
> Wi-fi is free to guests – it’s not available in all rooms but easily in lounges
> Parking is easy and free - unload at the door and park by the house

Overlooking Loch Sunart about a 5-minute walk from the village of Strontian. Take the Corran Ferry about 8 miles south of Fort William on the A82 and drive through the hills to Strontian; hotel signposted on the left. By the way, if you continue on this road you'll come to the ferry for the Isle of Mull, an ideal day out.

Keep an eye out for special reductions in the off-peak months when all-in packages offer best value. Rates may seem high but the dining experience is perfectly on a par with top-end city restaurants which would be pricier yet. Oh, and do get to know Phillip the manager: he’s a bit of a star and will do anything to help your stay.
