Judges' notes

An elevated site on the edge of famed Loch Ness gives this luxurious lodge hotel quite the setting. On sunny days enjoy the terrace and gaze out over the lovely gardens, with their water features and exotic planting, to the loch and far hills. It's hard to believe that Inverness is but a short drive away. Winner of the Small Luxury Hotel of the Year 2010 and Hotel of Beauty 2011 awards, Loch Ness Lodge is undoubtedly one of Scotland's finest smaller hotels and, while relatively new, is maturing perfectly.

First-class hospitality is at the heart; indeed, there's a quality of genuine concern to it that lifts this distinctive hotel into a privileged league. Wend up the drive from the lochside road; step inside - a stylish, contemporary foyer with feature furnishings, flowers and bold pictures awaits. This is a fragrantly immaculate place. Sitting rooms are
plush, classy in the modern manner of design. Upstairs, each bedroom has a character of its own; all are comfortably luxurious - many sumptuous. There's a small spa.

Food is a big thing at the lodge. In the kitchen, the Chef Team of the Year 2011 prepare with precision, passion and pride; you can sense it. The restaurant, with its magnificent outlook and tastefully stylish d
écor, charms. Dinner, in a Franco-Scottish style, is simply the finest of cuisine beautifully presented; menus are based on best of local / ethical ingredients.  Martin Samuels leads front of house service with huge care, attention to detail. Wine list is good, team knowledgeable. Breakfast is delicious.

Underpinning this outstanding deluxe escape is an attitude we've come to know over the years; it's a kind and determined will to create and extend the very best of Scottish hospitality. The result is a distinctive small hotel shot-though with quality, a place designed to delight and a joy to discover.
